Jennifer Lopez Makes Bold Request Amid Ben Affleck Divorce

Jennifer Lopez wants her old name back.

The singer and actress, who filed for divorce from husband Ben Affleck earlier this week, is asking the court to restore her last name to “Lopez.”

After picking up Affleck’s last name following their 2022 nuptials, J.Lo requested to have the actor’s surname officially dropped from her legal title, according to court documents obtained by Us Weekly.

The “Let’s Get Loud” singer, 55, filed divorce papers on Tuesday, Aug. 20, which happened to be the same date as the anniversary of their second wedding ceremony two years ago. (The duo had previously tied the knot in a private Las Vegas ceremony a month prior.)

Lopez listed the date of separation as April 26, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for her split from Affleck, 52.

And we know it’s not the first time Lopez has gone her separate ways from the Justice League star, as the pair was famously engaged back in the early 2000s, before ultimately calling things off.

Affleck would later marry and have three children with Jennifer Garner, while Lopez started a family with former husband Marc Anthony. Two divorces and several relationships later, Lopez and Affleck found their way back to one another in 2021, shaking the internet by reuniting nearly 20 years after ending their initial engagement.

At the time of their reunion, many fans were rooting for the couple, dubbed “Bennifer 2.0,” to work out this time. Just earlier this year, Lopez seemed to be more in love than ever with the Gone Girl actor, even featuring a love song, “Dear Ben, Pt II,” dedicated to him on her latest album, This Is Me…Now.

But speculation about a possible breakdown in their relationship had been swirling around in recent months, eventually coming to a head with Lopez’s filing this week.
