Jenny McCarthy Panics After Getting Her Period on ‘The View’

Jenny McCarthy shared a memorable and somewhat embarrassing moment from her time co-hosting The View. She revealed this incident during a conversation with Kelly Ripa on the Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast episode on July 17.

McCarthy, 51, admitted to Ripa that she got her period during one of the tapings of the daytime talk show. This incident left a lasting impression on her due to its unexpected nature and the challenges it presented.

Ripa asked McCarthy to recount any unusual stories from her time on the show. McCarthy served as a co-host in 2013 and 2014 during season 17. She responded by saying she had some stories, all of which eventually turned funny.

She began detailing a particular day when she was sitting on a light-colored couch during an interview. Although she couldn’t recall who the guest was, she vividly remembered the moment she felt her period arrive and her eyes widened in surprise.

“I just feel like this rush of a period,” McCarthy explained, highlighting the challenges of perimenopausal symptoms. “When you’re in your 40s, you bleed out. You basically hemorrhage, you know, your uterus falls out,” she added candidly.

Perimenopause, a transition phase before menopause, often includes significant changes in menstrual cycles and various physical and emotional symptoms. Johns Hopkins Medicine notes these phases can be marked by heavy bleeding, which is common among women transitioning into menopause, as per WebMD.

McCarthy recalled that because she was “wearing a freaking dress,” she started crossing her legs harder to prevent the menstrual blood from flowing down her legs while on TV.

“So I wrap up the interview kind of early, and everybody gets up except for me. And I just sit there,” she told Ripa. “I just sit there,” she reiterated, emphasizing her discomfort and dilemma.

“Everyone’s busy doing something else, gone, and I’m sitting by myself. I’m trying to talk to someone, but I didn’t want to say over the microphone, ‘I got my period. Please help me,’” she shared, illustrating her predicament.

Eventually, someone approached her, and she explained the situation. However, the person replied, “It’s gonna be fine, just get up and run.” But McCarthy knew better and retorted, “No, you don’t understand perimenopausal periods. This is going to be a disaster. You have to push me out with the couch.”

The Masked Singer judge did manage to “glide past everybody” to return backstage. However, once there, the crew and cast could see the blood, and “they were all horrified,” she revealed.

“Talk about a scary movie,” Ripa joked in response to the story, acknowledging the challenges McCarthy had faced while on live television. “You’ve been through the craziest.”
