‘Jeopardy!’ Isaac Hirsch’s Stand-Up Act Delights Fans

Isaac Hirsch is swiftly becoming a fan favorite for his humble yet comedic interaction with Ken Jennings on Jeopardy! Recently crowned champion, Isaac’s earlier standup routines have resurfaced, and fans are delighted by his humor.

On Wednesday, July 3, Isaac began his journey as the reigning champion and secured his ninth win on July 15. Upon his arrival on the Jeopardy! stage, it didn’t take long for fans to recognize that he was more than just brains. Isaac’s humor, combined with his gameplay, has endeared him to many, drawing comparisons to beloved competitor Sam Buttrey. The resurgence of his past standup routines has only added to his growing appeal.

After revealing on Jeopardy! that he had a background in standup comedy, fans found and shared one of Isaac’s performances. The response was overwhelmingly positive. In a video from Flapper’s in Burbank, CA, in 2017, Isaac introduces himself with, “Hi, I’m very thin,” before quickly adding, “I’m six-foot-one- I weigh 120 pounds. That’s not what bodies are supposed to do.” Compared to his current appearance on Jeopardy!, Isaac was noticeably thinner back then.

Since then, Isaac has updated his look with new glasses and a mustache. In his routine, he humorously discusses his physique, stating, “People think it’s better to be as thin as I am than to be fat.” He contrasts this by pointing out, “But here’s one thing fat guys can do: pretend they used to be good at sports.” He jokes about the struggles of being tall and thin, adding, “I can’t go, ‘I was a high school basketball star!’” and concludes with, “People would go, ‘Yeah, you must have been really good before that famine hit your village.’”

Isaac continues his act with more humor, discussing his experiences as an extra in Hollywood. “One downside is Hollywood will tell you exactly what you look like,” he says. He recounts being categorized as an “awkward kid on bus” by a casting director who saw his picture and made an immediate decision. This continued with other humorous anecdotes about being typecast in quirky roles.

The performer shares that Hollywood can be brutally honest about appearances. He recounts an instance where he was chosen to play a “kid in a wheelchair,” noting that he was likely picked over actual wheelchair users. On set, several individuals praised his performance, which initially flattered him until he realized that they believed he genuinely needed the wheelchair, making him stay seated for the rest of the day.

Isaac also touches on some personal misconceptions he had, such as pronouncing “horizontal” as “hor-ritz-in-al” until corrected in front of his math class to uproarious laughter. He humorously discusses his mistaken belief that everything got bigger in the dark, only to be corrected by friends who never let him forget it.

Fans of Jeopardy! have been captivated by Isaac Hirsch’s standup performances shared on social media. They find his combination of wit and intelligence both refreshing and endearing:

  • “Knew he’s funny (aside from being smart)!”
  • “This is awesome, and he is hilarious!”
  • “I love him, Too funny!”
  • “Very cool! I thought he’s had some pretty clever, humorous comments…”
