‘Jeopardy!’ Summer Break: When Will the Show Return?

Jeopardy! fans will have to pause their excitement as the beloved game show is set to enter its summer hiatus. This break means no new episodes will be airing, leaving fans with reruns of memorable winning streaks from contestants like Adriana Harmeyer, Isaac Hirsch, and Drew Basile. However, most viewers are eager for fresh games rather than replays.

The new season of Jeopardy! kicked off in April, introducing new contestants for the first time since the 2023 WGA strike. Adriana Harmeyer made waves with a winning streak that etched her name among the show’s greats. As July draws to a close, the game show is preparing for a midseason hiatus. The final new episode of this season will air on Friday, July 26th.

After this date, no new episodes will be broadcast for over a month. The hiatus will last for six weeks, with the show returning in September. Although Season 40 seemed shorter than usual, this was due to the first half featuring returning contestants, as the show could not introduce new players amid the writer’s strike.

When Jeopardy! resumes in early September, it will mark the start of Season 41. This situation is concerning because only a few contestants received automatic invitations to the annual Tournament of Champions. Thankfully, there’s a workaround to address this issue.

So far, only six players have qualified for the Tournament of Champions. With just one week left, it’s unlikely that any more contestants will qualify unless Neilesh Vinjamuri, who won his initial game last Friday, goes on a last-minute run. One of the six qualified players is Lisa Ann Walter, the Celebrity Jeopardy! champion.

Besides Lisa, the qualified players include Adriana Harmeyer, who boasts an impressive 15 wins, Isaac Hirsch with nine wins, Drew Basile with seven wins, Alison Betts with five wins, and Dr. Amy Hummel also with five wins. Two other contestants, Grant DeYoung and Amar Kakride, with four wins each, might still receive invitations, bringing the total to eight potential participants.

The Tournament of Champions won’t be aired until early 2025, which means Season 41 will be halfway through by then. This timing, a change introduced last year, ensures that contestants from Season 41 will also be eligible for the next Tournament of Champions, with a cutoff date of New Year’s Eve.

Executive Producer Michael Davies mentioned that fans can expect consistent new episodes of the original Jeopardy! until the next Tournament of Champions.
