A surge in property searches has been observed following the opening of Jeremy Clarkson’s new pub, according to the property website Rightmove.

The pub, located in Asthall near Burford, Oxfordshire, opened its doors to the public on August 23 and was rechristened The Farmer’s Dog.

On its first day of business, hundreds of eager patrons lined up, waiting for the pub to open. Rightmove reported that on August 24, the day after the pub’s grand opening, the highest number of property searches for homes in Burford in over a year was recorded.

During the pub’s inaugural bank holiday weekend, searches for homes in the area were up by 63% compared to the same period last year.

For pubgoers who wish to reside near Clarkson’s new endeavor, it’s worth noting that the average asking price for a property in the Burford postcode area is around £537,827. This suggests that potential homeowners will need to budget around half a million pounds to move into the neighborhood.

While Clarkson modestly described the impact of his new pub on British farming as a “tiny pinprick,” he expressed hope for a collective effort. “If everyone does it, if all the farmers get together and buy a pub – as you can get a pub for chicken feed these days – it might work,” he stated. “If this works – it is a co-operative of farmers we have formed – it might work, it might not, I’m the trailblazer.”

This is not the first time Clarkson’s ventures have spurred interest in local properties. The release of the first and second series of Clarkson’s Farm also caused a significant uptick in searches for properties in Chadlington, where the show is filmed.

Tim Bannister from Rightmove noted, “The Cotswolds will always inspire people to search and explore what living in one of its many areas of beauty could be like, and Jeremy Clarkson’s ventures have added further intrigue.”
