Jessica Gunning of Baby Reindeer Reveals Surprising Friendship with A-Lister

Jessica Gunning has taken the spotlight with her captivating performance in the Netflix hit show “Baby Reindeer.” In the show, she portrayed Martha, a relentless yet vulnerable stalker. Her stellar performance has made her a household name.

Speaking on the “Perfect Day with Jessica Knappett” podcast, Gunning humorously discussed her career prospects post-“Baby Reindeer.” She mentioned being offered roles in “Celebrity Infested Waters,” where celebrities swim with sharks, and an Australian touring production of Peter Pan, where she would play Smee.

She joked, “I don’t want to criticize the production companies because it’s very flattering. But while Richard got incredible meetings after this, I got offers like ‘Celebrity Infested Waters’ and playing Smee in an Australian production of Peter Pan. The offers are flooding in, watch out!”

Discussing future plans, Gunning said, “A theatre move would be nice. I’ve also been writing something for years that is now hopefully going somewhere. I don’t know if I can talk much about it, but it’s with Cate Blanchett’s production company. Cate and I became good friends after doing a play together about five or six years ago.”

She gave a hint about her new project, adding, “Cate and her husband have this production company. My friend Joe Dockery and I had an idea for a pilot years ago. After ‘Baby Reindeer,’ things have picked up. Intriguing!”

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Gunning elaborated, “I can’t talk about it much, but Cate Blanchett, who I did a play with, is producing it. It’s going to be a very light-hearted action comedy.”

Jessica and Cate collaborated in 2019 on the National Theatre production “When We Have Sufficiently Tortured Each Other.” Gunning reflected, “I would work for Cate Blanchett as a maid for the day in a film if I could. I’m a big fan. When she did the play, I got a part in it. I’ve never seen anyone work like she does.”

When asked whether Cate has watched “Baby Reindeer,” Gunning said in June, “I think so, or she’s about to. She told me her friends are texting her about it, asking if she has seen it yet. That really makes me laugh.”
