Jessica Simpson Criticized for ‘Weird Pose’ With Her Kids

In a surprising turn of events, Jessica Simpson found herself facing criticism once again from mom-shamers. This time, the backlash was over a playful pose she struck in a selfie, and it’s getting difficult to understand why. Are we not done with mom-shaming yet?

To grasp the situation, let’s look at the post causing the uproar. On August 10, Simpson posted a rare photo featuring herself and two of her children on Instagram. The caption read, “Cheerin’ for Ace with his sisters from the sidelines 🏀🏀🏀.”

The photo captures Simpson’s daughter Maxwell hugging her mom and younger sister Birdie in the stands at Ace’s basketball game. Maxwell and Birdie are smiling happily, while Simpson adds a dash of fun by making a silly face with her tongue out.

Observing her pose, one might think nothing of it. Yet, several people hinted that the pose was inappropriate or odd. One comment read, “Weird pose towards your child 👅😬,” and another said, “Weird pose,” suggesting something was wrong with Simpson’s playful act. Some fans even accused her of trying to steal attention from her kids, with one remark stating, “Can’t pose normally with her kids. Look at me not look at us 🥱.”

It’s perplexing to see such backlash in 2024. Is it really necessary to shame moms for making a silly face in a group selfie? Silly faces in photos are common, and it’s normal for people, including moms, to express themselves in different ways. Mom-shamers seem to have missed the memo about letting people enjoy their moments.

This isn’t the first time Simpson has faced unwarranted criticism. The mom-of-three has always been open about her family life. For those who do not know, Simpson and her husband Eric Johnson have three children: Maxwell Drew, born on May 1, 2012, Ace Knute, born on June 30, 2013, and Birdie Mae, born on March 19, 2019.

In a previous exclusive interview, Simpson shared insights about her family dynamics, particularly highlighting her daughter Maxwell’s free spiritedness and spirituality. “My eight-year-old daughter loves to pray with me at night. It really just calms her to know that she’s praying for people that are sick. I mean, she prays every night for the scientists,” Simpson noted. “She is a strong believer, you know? And she’s been amazing through all of it.”

Despite the recurring criticism, Jessica Simpson continues to focus on her family and personal growth. One can only hope that someday mom-shaming will become a thing of the past, allowing mothers everywhere to live their lives without undue judgment.
