Jill Biden’s Most Controversial Moments Unveiled

One of Jill Biden’s most controversial moments arose from her use of the honorific “Dr.” In November 2020, the National Review published a scathing critique, questioning her entitlement to the title since her degree is an Ed.D. and not a Ph.D. They disparaged her achievement, harshly stating, “her doctorate is garbage because her dissertation is garbage.”

The Wall Street Journal took a similar stance a month later in a rather patronizing op-ed. The author, Joseph Epstein, addressed Jill Biden condescendingly: “Madame First Lady — Mrs. Biden — Jill — kiddo: a bit of advice on what may seem like a small but I think is a not unimportant matter. Any chance you might drop the ‘Dr.’ before your name? ‘Dr. Jill Biden’ sounds and feels fraudulent, not to say a touch comic.”

Consequently, Jill Biden, the wife of President Joe Biden, found herself at the center of a highly partisan debate. Social media platforms buzzed with divided opinions. Bernice King, the daughter of Martin Luther King Jr., took to X (formerly Twitter) to offer support: “Dear @DrBiden: My father was a non-medical doctor. And his work benefited humanity greatly. Yours does, too.” Hillary Clinton also defended Jill Biden by tweeting, “Her name is Dr. Jill Biden. Get used to it.”

However, critics were equally vocal. One detractor commented, “She’s not a DR. Calling her ‘Dr.’ is an insult to those that actually earned the title.” Another sarcastically added, “No problem. Also good with Dr. Kanye West, Dr. Ben Affleck, Dr. Jon Bon Jovi, and Dr. P. Diddy.”
