Joe Budden Chooses Latto Over Doja Cat in Female Rapper Rankings

Joe Budden recently gave high praise to Latto, ranking her above Doja Cat in his list of top female rappers.

In the latest episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, which aired on YouTube on August 11, Budden and his cohosts discussed the lyrical prowess of Latto in the context of today’s female hip-hop artists. “First of all, Latto is one of the women that I support,” Budden began. He mentioned that he had purchased her work without having listened to it entirely, but was impressed by the samples.

Budden expressed his admiration for Latto, stating, “Latto is ill.” He placed her in the “top three” of all current female rappers. “Nicki is number one for me,” he asserted, adding that Latto has an edge over Doja Cat when it comes to rapping. “Doja may be a bigger and more well-rounded artist, but in terms of pure rapping, Doja can pack it up if Latto walks into the studio with her notebook,” Budden emphasized.

While acknowledging Cardi B’s talent, Budden alluded to rumors affecting her ranking but left those aside. He reaffirmed Latto’s dedication to hip-hop, describing her as one of “those girls” who truly loves the genre. He also used the opportunity to promote Latto’s new album, Sugar Honey Iced Tea, which was released on August 9.

The conversation shifted briefly to Budden’s past comments about Cardi B, which had led to a fiery response from the Bronx rapper. Budden had previously referred to Cardi as a “singles artist” and criticized the delay of her second album, which did not sit well with Cardi. She aired her grievances on X Spaces, condemning Budden for talking about her personal and professional life.

“Shut the f**k up, you don’t even know me,” Cardi had said. “Everything you do, whether it’s my personal life or my music life, you’re always talking sh*t about it, but then you fake thirsty for my album.” She even recounted an incident from her stripper days where she claimed Budden was visibly high on cocaine during a lap dance session.

Despite the heated exchange, the two have since reconciled. Cardi took to X to inform her fans that Budden had apologized for his comments, putting the issue to rest.
