Johnny Bananas Criticizes New Players on ‘Challenge 40’

Johnny Bananas is back on The Challenge 40 for the latest season titled “Battle of the Eras.” This season divides contestants into different generational teams, including a fresh batch of younger players who lack the veteran experience of Bananas. But rest assured, Bananas is not planning to go easy on them.

Johnny Bananas has some strong opinions about these new stars of The Challenge.

Johnny Bananas describes the new season of The Challenge as a “pissing contest.” It’s not just about securing the prize but also about proving which generation is superior. He declared he would not “make it easy” for the new players to “take the crown.”

“I look at The Challenge — and I think a lot of the older vets did as well — as our domain, and you want to protect that at all costs,” Johnny mentioned (via PEOPLE). Aneesa Ferreira, another veteran, participated in the same interview. Johnny further expressed, “As much as we’d love to see the newer generation come up and make their mark, we’re not going to make it easy for them to come in and take the crown.”

Johnny summed it up as “a pissing contest between the old guard and the new guard.” It’s a struggle between those who started the legacy and those who strive to carry it forward.

If anyone has earned the right to defend his position in The Challenge, it is Johnny Bananas. With the real name Johnny Devenanzio, Bananas boasts the most wins in the history of the competition, securing seven victories throughout his tenure.

Johnny enters The Challenge 40 after an early exit in The Traitors: Season 2. It must have stung to be the first contestant ousted from The Traitors despite his track record on The Challenge. Reflecting on this, Bananas said, “I was kicked off on The Duel because I wasn’t seen as a threat and I was the first one eliminated on Traitors for the exact opposite reason.”

This early elimination seemed to fuel Johnny’s motivation to prove himself once again. He made a quick statement by winning the first challenge of Season 40. “If I don’t make it to a final and win every season, I’m washed up, I’m over the hill, I need to retire, I’m an old man, I need a hip replacement,” Johnny quipped. Despite the jest, he made it clear he is aiming for victory and hinted at five significant challenges this season, suggesting fans get ready for an action-packed journey.
