Johnny Depp Honors Late ‘Pirates’ Actor Tamayo Perry, Killed by Shark

Johnny Depp recently paid tribute to his late “Pirates of the Caribbean” co-star, Tamayo Perry.

Perry, who was a renowned surfer and a lifeguard with Honolulu Ocean Safety, tragically passed away in June due to a shark attack while surfing near Mālaekahana Beach on Oahu’s North Shore. He was 49 years old.

In addition to his impressive surfing skills, Perry was also an actor, featured in films such as “Blue Crush” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” as well as in the TV show “Hawaii Five-0.”

Depp shared a heartfelt tribute alongside a black-and-white photo of Perry and his wife of 25 years, Emilia, both donning wetsuits and holding surfboards.

“Even though it was some years ago now, I remember Tamayo well,” Depp wrote. “A lovely man, with a huge heart and a zest for life.”

Offering his condolences, Depp added, “Emilia, I send you all my love and strength. You are in my thoughts. With love, Johnny. X”

Depp also included a link to a crowdfunding campaign aimed at supporting Perry’s legacy, which has garnered more than $110,000 out of its $200,000 goal since it launched last month.

Through the crowdfunding page, Depp wrote, “Tragic though his passing may be, he left this world doing what he loved where he loved to do it.”

The page further stated, “We find strength in knowing he is in heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ, trading barrels at Pipeline with his friends that have gone before him.”

The funds raised are intended to support Emilia as she faces the future without Tamayo, her husband, best friend, and provider.

Emilia Perry expressed her sorrow, sentimentally referring to her marriage as the “best 25-year vacation of my life” that abruptly ended.

Although she feels devastated, Emilia believes in her heart that Perry is now in a better place. Her deep Christian faith offers her solace during these tough times, even without her husband physically by her side.

Before his untimely death, Tamayo reportedly texted his family, “I can’t wait to meet the king. I’m excited, not scared. We got to pray and forgive and love.”

Speaking to the media, Emilia said her husband embodied “how to be a better human,” always emphasizing the importance of loving and cherishing people because “you never know when they’re gonna be taken away.”
