LONDON (Reuters) – Actor Johnny Depp has delved into tarot iconography for his latest art collection, which includes a heartfelt tribute to his former partner, French actor and singer Vanessa Paradis. This new collection will be available for purchase starting Thursday.

The series, titled “Tarot,” consists of four pieces: “The Lovers,” “The Empress,” “The Emperor,” and “Strength.” Each piece reflects the imagery found in tarot cards.

“I’ve always been tremendously curious about the tarot,” Depp expressed in a video.

“There’s a great art to the cards themselves, dating back to forever ago and the unseen art of reading the cards.”

“The Lovers” features a well-dressed couple, with the male figure holding a red rose. Meanwhile, “The Empress,” showcasing a female figure adorned with a weathered crown, pays homage to Paradis, with whom Depp shared a 14-year relationship before their split in 2012.

They have two children together, and despite their separation, Depp mentioned they have remained “very close”.

“Strength” portrays a contemplative elephant along with the words: “Why do you want to fight with something that doesn’t want to fight with you?”. This piece draws inspiration from a painting Depp made while Paradis was pregnant.

“The Emperor,” eyeless but with elaborately made-up red lips, evokes the image of a 17th-century French monarch. This piece was inspired by a work Depp created during the filming of “Jeanne du Barry,” where he portrayed King Louis XV in Versailles.

This film premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and marked Depp’s first significant role since his high-profile defamation trial against his ex-wife, actor Amber Heard, in 2022.

Depp’s “Tarot” series is limited to 195 editions and is priced at $4,500 for each framed piece. The collection will be available for purchase through British art retailer Castle Fine Art.
