‘Joker 2’ Footage Reveals Harvey Dent, Played by ‘Industry’ Star Harry Lawtey

We have the Joker. We have Harley Quinn. Now we have Harvey Dent. Todd Phillips’ highly anticipated sequel “Joker: Folie à Deux” will feature these iconic characters, as shown in new footage released by Warner Bros. on Tuesday morning. The promotion gives a first look at Harry Lawtey in the role of Harvey Dent, also known as Two-Face, a prominent adversary of Batman.

Harry Lawtey, known for his role as Robert Spearing on HBO and BBC Two’s “Industry,” embodies this complex character in “Folie à Deux.” In DC Comics, Harvey Dent initially appears as Gotham City’s District Attorney. A tragic incident involving acid, leads to his disfigurement and results in a life torn between dueling personalities. In the trailer, Lawtey’s Dent appears as an Assistant D.A., hinting at his early days before his transformation into Two-Face.

“Arthur Fleck is a monster. He knew exactly what he was doing,” Lawtey’s Dent states in the promotional footage. “His depraved acts of violence led to riots by his followers, and they are still willing to commit acts of violence in his name.” These intense comments frame the Joker’s impact on Gotham and the chaos ensuing from his actions.

Dent has been a favorite villain in Batman film adaptations. Tommy Lee Jones first brought the character to the big screen in 1995’s “Batman Forever,” where he starred alongside Jim Carrey as the Riddler. Later, Aaron Eckhart portrayed Dent in “The Dark Knight,” showing the District Attorney’s drastic fall from grace after being disfigured by the Joker.

Whether Harry Lawtey’s depiction of Dent will see the character evolve into Two-Face in “Folie à Deux” is still uncertain. Fans eagerly anticipate how this new portrayal will fit into the wider narrative of the Joker sequel.

“Joker: Folie à Deux” stars Joaquin Phoenix reprising his role as Arthur Fleck, and Lady Gaga, adding more star power to the film. The movie is scheduled for release in theaters on October 4 and will have its premiere at the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday.
