Jonathan Jackson Starts Shooting New ABC Soap

Lucky Spencer is officially back in action.

General Hospital thrilled fans by sharing the first picture of Jonathan Jackson on Monday, marking his official return to the ABC soap opera.

“We are so very lucky (see what we did there) to have Jonathan Jackson back in the building,” read the social media post. “And you won’t have to wait long to see what he has in store for Port Charles.”

In June, Deadline broke the exclusive news that the Emmy-winning actor was set to return to Port Charles. His appearance is anticipated near the end of August.

Excitement had been building among soap viewers, especially after GH executive producer Frank Valentini teased a major return on the Daytime Emmys red carpet. “A former cast member is coming back,” he told ABC7. “And I think that the audience will go crazy for him.”

Jackson hasn’t graced the set of General Hospital since 2015. His upcoming stint this summer promises to be a long one.

For those catching up, Jackson first brought Lucky to life in 1993. Lucky is the cherished son of the iconic super-couple Luke and Laura Spencer, portrayed by Anthony Geary and Genie Francis. Jackson played the role intermittently until 2011, when he left to star as Avery Barkley in ABC’s Nashville for six seasons. By then, Jackson had already been extending his acting range beyond daytime TV, appearing in films like The Deep End of the Ocean, On the Edge, Insomnia, Tuck Everlasting, and Venom. During his absences, actors Jacob Young and Greg Vaughan took on the role of Lucky.

Throughout his time on General Hospital, Jackson was nominated for nine Emmys, winning five times in 1995, 1998, 1999, 2011, and 2012.
