Jonathan Majors’ Comments on Robert Downey Jr.’s Return as Dr. Doom

Ever since Marvel Studios dropped Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror from their lineup, there has been much curiosity and rising discussions around the franchise’s next big antagonist. Many speculated that Majors would either be recast or that the studios would find a new antagonist for the upcoming Avengers movies. However, the San Diego Comic-Con gave fans a clearer vision of what’s next for the MCU.

The Russos announced that Robert Downey Jr. is back, but not as Tony Stark. This time, he will portray Marvel Comics’ most renowned supervillain, Victor Von Doom. This shocking revelation took the internet by storm, garnering mixed reactions from fans worldwide. Aside from fans, even MCU actors, including Mark Ruffalo and Gwyneth Paltrow, shared their reactions to Downey’s return. Here’s what they had to say:

“I don’t get it, are you a baddie now?”

– Gwyneth Paltrow

“Hey Brat, green suits you.”

– Mark Ruffalo

This big news also got a reaction from Majors, who was let go last year after being convicted of misdemeanor assault. Previously, the MCU had already initiated setting up his antagonistic character in its universe by introducing him in Loki Season 1, followed by Antman & The Wasp: Quantumania and Loki Season 2. However, Majors’ exit led them to drop the Avengers: The Kang Dynasty title from Avengers 5. They have now renamed it Avengers: Doomsday, starring RDJ. But it appears Majors isn’t happy about Downey replacing him as the main villain. Here’s why:

In a recent interview with TMZ, Majors addressed RDJ’s return as Victor Von Doom. He revealed that he is “heartbroken” over Marvel’s decision to replace Kang the Conqueror with Dr. Doom. Moreover, he expressed his love for Kang and deemed Dr. Doom “wicked.”.

Alluding to Downey’s legal troubles from the 90s, Majors said, “I think it’s fair that Mr. Downey is being and has been greeted with patience and curiosity, and love … and [he’s] being allowed to work [his] art and be creative at that level. I didn’t really get that.”

He also expressed his interest in returning as Kang in the MCU. He says that if fans and Marvel want the same, he is up for a return.
