Judge Denies Hunter Biden’s Latest Bid to Dismiss Tax Charges

A federal judge has ruled against Hunter Biden’s request to dismiss several tax-related charges he faces in Los Angeles, which likely means the case will proceed to trial early next month.

The motions were filed in July by Biden’s attorneys, seeking to dismiss his cases in both California and Delaware. They referenced a federal judge’s decision in Florida to dismiss the classified documents case against former President Donald Trump as supporting their argument.

However, U.S. District Judge Mark Scarsi, who is overseeing the tax case in Los Angeles, denied this request in a seven-page ruling. He stated that the arguments presented by Biden’s legal team did not hold up on either procedural or factual grounds.

Judge Scarsi pointed out that Hunter Biden was seeking a reconsideration of issues that had already been addressed in a previous ruling. He noted, “As he concedes in his notice of the motion, Mr. Biden plainly seeks reconsideration of issues already decided upon his February motion,” emphasizing that there was no valid reason to revisit the court’s earlier decision to deny the motion to dismiss the indictment.

Although Scarsi previously indicated that Biden could face sanctions due to his legal team’s claims about the motivations behind the charges by special counsel David Weiss, he ultimately chose not to impose any penalties. Hunter Biden’s lawyers later admitted their claims had been “inartfully” presented.

In light of his recent legal team’s changes, Judge Scarsi refrained from imposing sanctions but reminded the team that “candor is paramount.” This warning highlights the importance of honesty and transparency in legal proceedings.

Biden faces a total of nine felony and misdemeanor charges related to his failure to pay $1.4 million in taxes over three years, a period during which he struggled with addiction. A third party, reported to be Biden’s attorney and confidant, Kevin Morris, ultimately paid the back taxes and penalties in full.

The trial is set to commence on September 5. Hunter Biden has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him.

In a separate matter, Hunter Biden was found guilty earlier this summer on three firearm-related charges in Delaware, which adds another layer to the ongoing legal challenges faced by the president’s son.
