Judi Dench to discuss Shakespearean roles at Cheltenham Literature Festival

Dame Judi Dench is set to share insights into her esteemed Shakespearean acting roles at the Cheltenham Literature Festival. The accomplished stage and screen actress, at the age of 89, is among the many celebrity speakers scheduled to attend this year’s event, which marks its 75th anniversary.

The Oscar-winning star will delve into her book “Shakespeare: The Man Who Pays The Rent,” where she reflects on her various roles, ranging from Lady Macbeth to Cleopatra. The book is structured around conversations with her friend, actor, and director Brendan O’Hea, who will join Dame Judi at the festival.

The Cheltenham-based festival will also feature a discussion between Spice Girl Geri Horner and Emma Freud. They will explore Horner’s journey into activism and her foray into writing children’s fiction.

Actress Celia Imrie, known for her upcoming role in the Netflix adaptation of “The Thursday Murder Club,” will talk about her latest novel, “Meet Me At Rainbow Corner,” which draws inspiration from the resilience and camaraderie of women during the Second World War.

Elsewhere, Sir Michael Palin will revisit the festival to discuss his diaries from 1999 to 2009. Additionally, St Trinian’s actor Rupert Everett will speak about his diverse career and his new collection of short stories.

Chat show host Lorraine Kelly and presenter Fearne Cotton are also on the lineup. They will discuss their debut novels, while author David Nicholls will talk about his new romance novel and reflect on the success of his bestselling book “One Day,” which was recently adapted into a major Netflix series.

The festival will welcome numerous other television icons, including Alison Steadman from Gavin And Stacey, actress Miriam Margolyes, comedian Miranda Hart, and First Dates star Fred Sirieix.

Music enthusiasts will also find notable participants such as Rick Astley, famed for his hit “Never Gonna Give You Up.” He will discuss his memoir. Classical singer Russell Watson will open up about his experiences surviving two brain tumor diagnoses.

The event will also host a special live episode of the podcast “The MidPoint” with TV presenter Gabby Logan, who will chat with beauty and wellness expert Liz Earle.

The festival, which highlights contemporary authors, has planned over 400 events this year. Discussions will encompass a broad range of subjects, from politics and culture to history and psychology.

Booking for the festival opens to Cheltenham Festivals members on Thursday, August 29, and public booking starts on Thursday, September 5.
