Julianne Hough Reveals Details of Breakup With Ryan Seacrest

DWTS host and former pro dancer Julianne Hough is detailing her breakup with Wheel of Fortune host, Ryan Seacrest. The two dated for three years before splitting up. Hough went on to get married later, but what caused the two to part ways? Additionally, did they maintain contact after their breakup? Keep reading for all the details.

Ryan Seacrest just ended a three-year relationship with Aubrey Paige. It seemed like the two were going to last, but sadly, they parted ways. Seacrest is notably busy; he has his own radio show, hosts American Idol, and has been named Pat Sajak’s replacement on Wheel of Fortune. Although fans of the game show have expressed skepticism about him taking over, he is ready to prove them wrong.

Julianne Hough opens up about her three-year-long relationship with Seacrest, which lasted from 2010 to 2013. According to Page Six, Hough shared why their relationship didn’t work. At the time, she was just beginning her career, while Seacrest was already a superstar. She explained the dynamics of their relationship on Dax Shepherd’s Armchair Expert podcast:

“The rug was swept up from underneath me, and I was just flying, and I was experiencing things that I didn’t even know existed. But then I had this insecurity that I was like, I don’t ever want anybody to think that I’m with him for this reason.”

Julianne wanted their romance to be seen as genuine and pure, not as a means for her to progress further in Hollywood. Dax Shepherd, who is married to Kristen Bell, completely understood how she felt. Because of her insecurities, Hough ended up doing more than she might have otherwise:

“I overcompensated, was malleable to fit into exactly what somebody needed me to be for them to be happy. And what I’ve realized over the years is I don’t know if I’ve ever truly been in love with someone, but I have loved the feeling of being loved. And so let me be what that needs to be so that I can be loved.”

Julianne admitted that Seacrest had been used in the past, and she did not want him to think that was why she was with him. Ultimately, they decided to end their relationship, which was a decision questioned by others:

“I remember when I decided to break things off, I had a lot of these Brentwood moms and producers in that world that were like, ‘What are you doing?’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ They’re like, ‘Your life is completely set up.’ And I was, like, ‘But I didn’t build it.’”

Remaining in the relationship would have meant an easier life with many things handed to her, but that was not fulfilling for Julianne. She went on to marry four years later, although that marriage ended in divorce. Despite their breakup, Hough’s career flourished just fine without Seacrest by her side.
