Kamala Harris Raises Funds for Presidential Campaign and Donates Some

Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign has made significant strides, amassing over $540 million since late July. With this influx of funds, she is now extending her support to other Democratic candidates as well.

The campaign has gained considerable momentum following the endorsement from President Joe Biden, who stepped aside from the race on July 21. Harris’s fundraising efforts have exceeded expectations during this crucial period.

As the battle for control of Congress looms, the outcomes of various races will determine Harris’s ability to implement her policies if she emerges victorious in November. The competitive landscape sees her in a tight race against former President Donald Trump, while numerous down-ballot races for both the Senate and the House also remain too close to call.

In a show of solidarity and support for Democratic candidates at various levels, Harris’s campaign, along with the Democratic National Committee (DNC), is distributing nearly $25 million. This represents “the largest transfer ever in a presidential cycle,” according to campaign officials.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee are set to receive $10 million each, as reported by CNN. Furthermore, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee will benefit from $2.5 million, with the Democratic Attorneys General Association gaining $1 million and the Democratic Governors Association receiving an additional $1 million.

Jen O’Malley Dillon, chair of the Harris campaign, emphasized the importance of every race this November in a recent statement. “If we want a future where every American’s rights are protected, where the middle class is strengthened, and where our democracy is preserved, every race matters,” she asserted.

She further noted that Vice President Harris believes in mobilizing citizens across the country to stand up for freedoms and economic opportunities. “This is why the Vice President has chosen to invest a historic sum into electing Democrats at all levels,” O’Malley Dillon stated.

In addition, the Harris campaign saw a surge in donations following the announcement of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. This moment was particularly fruitful, as her most significant fundraising hour occurred after her speech at the Democratic National Convention where she officially accepted her presidential nomination.

Throughout this election cycle, Democrats are keenly aware of the stakes at hand, especially with the anticipated retirement of Independent Senator Joe Manchin, who was previously a Democrat. This change could open up opportunities for Republican candidates in a state that leans heavily red.

The Cook Political Report indicates that 22 House races and critical Senate contests in states like Michigan, Montana, and Ohio are considered toss-ups, demanding focused efforts from the Democratic Party.

Jaime Harrison, chair of the Democratic National Committee, highlighted the organization’s commitment to supporting down-ballot races. He stated, “We are proud to be delivering nearly $25 million in funding to our sister committees; this support is crucial for enhancing our grassroots organizing and ensuring voter protection initiatives.”

Harrison reiterated that Democrats are contesting elections across all levels. “We are fighting this November – from school boards to the White House,” he added.
