Kate Middleton and Prince William’s Big Secret Revealed During ‘Never Have I Ever’

How do you tell your college friends that you’re secretly dating a royal prince? Play a game of “Never Have I Ever,” apparently.

In an excerpt from Robert Jobson’s new book, Catherine, The Princess of Wales, the royal author details how Kate Middleton and Prince William’s secret college romance was exposed after one of the prince’s ex-girlfriends, Carly Massy-Birch, suggested they play a fun game of “Never Have I Ever” during a dinner party.

Also known as the “Ten fingers” game, “Never Have I Ever” is a drinking game in which players take turns asking other players about things they have or haven’t done.

According to Massy-Birch, the young couple’s relationship status was reportedly made “much to the prince’s chagrin.” Jobson goes on to quote Katie Nicholl’s 2013 book, Kate: The Future Queen, which further details the huge confession.

In a passage from the book (and reshared by the NY Post), an unnamed guest who attended the party told Nicholl: “[Massy-Birch] announced, ‘I’ve never dated two people in this room,’ knowing full well that William was the only one who had because Kate was sitting next to him.”

Though everyone was “in shock” after finding out the big secret, the guest also revealed that Prince William “shot a thunderous look” at his ex-girlfriend and even whispered under his breath, “I can’t believe you just said that.”

Kate and Will met and started dating while they were both sophomores at the University of St. Andrews back in 2001. Though they were friends at first, everything changed when Middleton volunteered to model in a charity fashion show—and yes, Prince William was sitting in the first row. After watching her walk the runway in a see-through knit dress, the prince was undoubtedly smitten. And as they say, the rest is history.
