The Princess of Wales, Kate, attended the men’s singles final at Wimbledon on Sunday, accompanied by her daughter, Princess Charlotte, amidst her ongoing cancer treatment.

Kate, a devoted tennis enthusiast and royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, was seated in the Royal Box at center court to watch Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic battle it out for the championship.

Before the championship match, it was uncertain whether Kate would make an appearance at this year’s tournament. In March, the 42-year-old wife of Prince William announced her cancer diagnosis, though the specific type of cancer has not been disclosed.

In a written update shared by Kensington Palace in June, Kate mentioned that she is “making good progress” with chemotherapy but noted that she is not “out of the woods yet” and that her treatment would continue for a few more months.

Having remained out of the public eye since her diagnosis, Kate made her first public appearance in June at Trooping the Colour alongside other royal family members.

Kate’s choice to attend Wimbledon as her second public appearance is not surprising. Over the years, she has been a regular fixture at the tournament and last year even showcased her own tennis skills on the grass courts.

As royal patron, a role she has held since 2016, Kate has attended numerous matches, participated in ball boy and girl training sessions with tennis legend Roger Federer, and presented championship trophies to tournament winners. Last year, she sat next to tennis icon Billie Jean King at the women’s championship and was later joined by her husband, William, and their two eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, at the men’s championship.

This year, William was notably absent from the men’s final at Wimbledon, as he was in Berlin for the Union of European Football Association (UEFA) championship game between England and Spain. As president of the Football Association, William shared a message on social media before the game, wishing England good luck and expressing his pride in the team, writing, “We are so proud of you all @england, just one last push to finish the job! Go out there and show the world what you’re made of. We believe.”
