Kaytranada is one of the most highly sought-after artists in electronic music. The Grammy Award history-maker has collaborated with acts such as Beyoncé, Tinashe, HER, and Victoria Monét, among others. However, the “Lover/Friend” musician’s resume could have included Drake as well.

During an interview with Vulture, Kaytranada revealed that he was seemingly approached to work on Drake’s album, Honestly, Nevermind.

While attending a Coachella after-party, Kaytranada mentioned that he was asked if he would be open to producing or “making beats” for the project. He replied to Drake’s supposed representative by saying it would be “an honor.” However, this response didn’t sit well with Drake.

After some time had passed, Kaytranada was informed that his “Sure, hit me up” response wasn’t enthusiastic enough. “Was I supposed to be like, ‘Oh my God, for real? Drake?’ I’m not like that,” he explained.

The 2022 project, which featured singles like “Sticky,” “Massive,” and “Jimmy Cooks,” marked Drake’s venture into dance music. Though the album debuted atop the charts, a collaboration with Kaytranada could have potentially helped it maintain its top position for a longer period.

Drake wasn’t the only superstar to miss out on a collaboration with Kaytranada. Later in the same interview, he disclosed why his beloved remix of Beyoncé’s “Cuff It” track isn’t available on streaming platforms. Ultimately, Kaytranada decided not to upload it due to financial disagreements.

“Sometimes people don’t see your worth and how important you are,” he said. “I know what I mean to people.” This statement came after he claimed that Beyoncé’s team offered him significantly less money than what much smaller artists have paid, while also retaining all the rights to the song.

It seems Kaytranada has no issues walking away from opportunities that do not serve his best interests.
