Keeley Hawes, Freddie Highmore to Lead Amazon Prime Thriller ‘The Assassin’

Harry and Jack Williams have unveiled their latest thriller, “The Assassin,” set to premiere on Amazon Prime. The series will feature Keeley Hawes (“Bodyguard”) and Freddie Highmore (“Bates Motel”) in the lead roles.

The production is backed by the Williams’ company, Two Brothers Pictures, known for hits like “The Tourist” and “Fleabag.” The series is produced in association with several partners, including ZDF, All3Media International, and Stan in Australia.

Besides starring in the series, Hawes and Highmore will also take on executive producer roles. The show is slated for six episodes, each lasting 60 minutes. The cast also includes Gina Gershon (“Riverdale”), Shalom Brune-Franklin (“The Tourist”), Jack Davenport (“The Morning Show”), Alan Dale (“Dynasty”), Gerald Kyd (“The Swarm”), Devon Terrell (“Totally Completely Fine”), Richard Dormer (“Blue Lights”), and David Dencik (“The Ipcress File”). Additional cast members will be announced later.

The storyline centers on retired assassin Julie (Hawes), who is living on a secluded Greek island. Her estranged son Edward (Highmore) visits her from England, armed with questions about his paternity. As they navigate their tense relationship, Julie’s dangerous past catches up with them, forcing both mother and son to go on the run.

Edward’s search for the truth collides with Julie’s need for secrecy. Throughout their journey, they uncover a dark conspiracy they initially believe to be their main threat. However, a far greater danger emerges, threatening to destroy their relationship completely.

In a race against time, Julie fights not only to save Edward but also to salvage their strained relationship as past and present collide in a suspenseful showdown that spans the globe.

Hannah Blyth, Head of TV for Prime Video UK, expressed her enthusiasm about the project. She described working with Harry and Jack Williams as a “true pleasure.”

“From the moment Harry and Jack shared their vision for ‘The Assassin,’ we knew that it would resonate perfectly with our audience,” Blyth said.

She added, “’The Assassin’ promises to deliver a high-stakes thriller with a dynamic mother-son relationship at its core, packed with twists and turns that will keep our audience hooked from start to finish. We can’t wait for our customers to immerse themselves in this gripping new series.”
