This concert might not have reached the legendary status of The Beatles’ rooftop performance at Apple Corps, but Keith Urban still managed to surprise fans in a big way.
Urban added a unique twist to an Alabama Buc-ee’s, bringing even more country flair to the famous convenience store. WAFF reported that Urban held a free pop-up concert at the Athens, Alabama Buc-ee’s, much to the delight of fans. The event was a considerable surprise for the local community.
An Instagram comment captured the essence of the unexpected concert, stating, “This is the most country thing I think I’ve seen.”
“It took a little bit trying to figure out if it was actually true or not,” Jessie Holland told WZDX. “We found some people that were passing by and said there really is a stage set up there, so here we are.”
For some fans, the evening was destined to be extraordinary as Urban had announced the impromptu concert on social media just a few hours before his first note echoed through the crowd.
Urban even took a moment to join the brisket stand, exclaiming, “FRESH BRISKET ON THE BOARD!!!!” He learned the Buc-ee’s method for preparing their signature offering.
Addressing the crowd, Urban shared that he had visited the Buc-ee’s location about a month prior and thought, “it would be kinda fun to do a show there.” He initially imagined setting up a small stage and attracting around 100 to 200 people. Contrary to his modest expectations, many more fans showed up, camping out by 3 p.m. as per WZDX reports.
Earlier this year, Urban announced plans for a tour of clubs and dive bars following the release of his single “Go Home W U,” as noted by Al.com. His latest album, “High,” is set for release next month.
