Kelly Ripa Recalls Mark Consuelos’ Irritating Habit During Her Pregnancy

Kelly Ripa is reflecting on a past event during her first pregnancy that left her less than pleased with her husband, Mark Consuelos.

On a recent episode of Live with Kelly & Mark, the mother of three shared memories of being pregnant with their son Michael, who is now 27. She recounted how Consuelos decided to focus on his fitness while she was carrying their child. Ripa remarked, “Let me tell you something. You want to know something really irritating? When I was pregnant, Mark decided he was going to join a gym and hire a trainer. And the more pregnant I got, the fitter he got,” she said.

While there can be advantages to having a physically fit partner during pregnancy, Ripa’s frustration is understandable. Pregnancy often brings significant physical changes, which can be mentally challenging.

Ripa added, “I had heard about all of these sympathetic, empathetic husbands that also get pregnant with their wives. And that the wives gain a bunch of weight—which I did—and the husbands gain it along with them and then they have fun taking it off together. He turned into Hercules,” she commented. Consuelos humorously responded, “Because you did it for both of us, baby. You gained the weight for both of us.” It was clear that was not the response Ripa was hoping for.

Ripa humorously noted, “I remember because I had gained 68 lbs. when I was pregnant with Michael.” She recalled an article from that time, which claimed she looked like she “had 7 babies in there.” The public scrutiny of a pregnant woman’s body is something that never fails to astonish.

“He was big, I will hand it to him,” Ripa acknowledged. “But still, it was this thing where he said, ‘Here, you shouldn’t feel bad.’ And I go, ‘Did you read the part about her having 7 children?’” She jokingly mentioned, “But he brought it in with his rippling muscles. He just came from the gym.”

Besides their son Michael, Ripa and Consuelos are also parents to 23-year-old daughter Lola and 21-year-old son Joaquin.
