Kemi Badenoch: “I’m Not Afraid of ‘Doctor Who'” in Campaign Video

A UK Conservative Party leadership hopeful has reignited her beef with David Tennant, boldly stating in a campaign video that she is “not afraid of Doctor Who” and will “take the fight” to the cultural establishment.

Kemi Badenoch launched her campaign on X yesterday, sharing a 30-second video in which she prominently addressed her public clash with Tennant. Tennant, known for his role as the 10th Doctor, had told Badenoch to “shut up” in July over her views on trans rights, to which she had previously responded that she “will not be silenced.” Prominent anti-trans figures, including JK Rowling, quickly came to Badenoch’s defense, branding Tennant a part of the “gender Taliban” in a heated X post.

In the new campaign video, Badenoch declared: “When you have that type of cultural establishment trying to keep Conservatives down you need someone like me, who’s not afraid of Doctor Who, or whoever, and who’s going to take the fight to them and not let them keep us down. That’s not going to happen with me.” The video opens with a clip of Tennant critiquing her.

Badenoch has consistently voiced her opinions on trans rights, previously stating she would permit organizations to exclude transgender women from single-sex spaces.

She is currently the frontrunner in the Tory leadership race, according to recent polling. Rishi Sunak, who lost the election to Keir Starmer in July, will step down shortly.
