Kenny Chesney Ends Sun Goes Down Tour with Love for No Shoes Nation

After a three-year closure due to the COVID pandemic, Gillette Stadium finally reopened its doors to welcome Kenny Chesney, an eight-time Entertainer of the Year, for the concluding three shows of his “Sun Goes Down 2024 Tour.” Chesney’s performances highlighted significant moments of his career, revisiting themes of perseverance, love, life, and joy that have earned him a large and loyal fan base.

The final shows on the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th were emotionally charged. “The last night is always so hard,” Chesney shared, “because you’ve shared so many things over a few months… You get close, you have fun, and you live. But this year, this tour has been even more so because every single person who came to see us brought just as much heart to the shows as my road family and I brought. It was something you could feel everywhere we went.”

The bonds that Chesney has forged with his fans were evident throughout the three-night series. No Shoes Nation, his devoted fan club, sang along to every song, fully embracing the messages Chesney conveyed.

One particularly resonant moment came when he performed “Boston,” a story about a free-spirited bartender following her dreams, striking a chord with the New England audience. The crowd passionately sang the last chorus, lights still on, while Chesney nodded along. On the final night, “Boys of Fall” became a fan anthem as images of Tom Brady, various Patriots players, and coaches flashed across the stadium’s screens.

“It really felt like No Shoes Nation came to sing,” Chesney remarked. “These songs were their life, too, and they were going to sing them back to us. I felt like I was seeing—and hearing—everything we played in another dimension because I could hear all those lives in their voices.”

Joining Chesney for these powerful performances were Uncle Kracker and Megan Maroney, who added their own notes to this love letter to the fans. Uncle Kracker’s renditions of “When the Sun Goes Down” and “Drift Away,” including a reprise of “Follow Me,” had the crowd singing at the top of their lungs.

Megan Maroney added a touch of humor during the weekend by staging an unforgettable prank involving a ride on a child-sized tractor while covering “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy.” Although she toned it down for the final night with a more subdued “Best Summer Ever”/”We Summer,” her prank became a highlight.

“Watching Megan really come into her power this summer has been one of the best things I’ve seen in a long time,” Chesney praised. “She is a triple threat writer/singer/performer – and she’s found the space she wants to work from. Mark my words: she’s here for the duration.”

Songs like “Young,” “American Kids,” “Save It For A Rainy Day,” and “Get Along” added an idealistic, joyful atmosphere to the show. Given the success and emotional depth of these performances, it wouldn’t be surprising if these heartfelt musical exchanges became a recurring summer tradition.
