Kerry Washington Leads in Tyler Perry’s WWII Film ‘The Six Triple Eight’ Teaser

Fans have officially gotten the first look at The Six Triple Eight, Tyler Perry’s upcoming Netflix film. The highly anticipated release stars Kerry Washington as an army captain who leads her historic battalion of female soldiers to “defy the odds to deliver hope to the front lines during WWII.”

The newly released teaser opens with Washington’s voice commanding her soldiers. “Soldiers, you must be perfect,” says Major Charity Adams, the first Black woman to be appointed as an officer in the Women’s Army Corps. “You do not have the luxury to be good. You have the burden to be better.”

As action-packed scenes of the “most storied war in history” flash across the screen, she continues, “Look alive, ladies! I need women who had to fight to survive… I am giving you my best and you will give me yours. A lot of people do not want us to succeed. We have the most to prove. Welcome to the Women’s Army Corps.”

The Six Triple Eight will be available on Dec. 20 only on Netflix.

The movie is based on Kevin M. Hymel’s article “Fighting A Two-Front War,” featured in WWII History Magazine. The synopsis details that the film is “inspired by the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas in WWII. Despite facing racism and sexism – and grueling working conditions – they were committed to serving their country with honor and distinction. Given an extraordinary mission and united in their determination, these unsung heroes delivered hope and shattered barriers.”

The Six Triple Eight is the latest in a string of productions Tyler Perry has headed as part of his ongoing Netflix deal. The streamer and award-winning filmmaker locked in a multi-year, first-look series pact last October, with the promise to deliver eight projects over four years. So far, they have delivered Mea Culpa starring Kelly Rowland, and a TV drama series named Beauty In Black is on the way.
