Kevin Feige on Marvel/DC Crossover: “Never Say Never”

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is addressing the possibility of a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and DC Universe (DCU) crossover, reassuring fans that it’s not entirely off the table. Feige, who is currently promoting Deadpool & Wolverine, spoke with Collider’s Steve Weintraub about the future of the MCU and the potential for monumental events in the comic book movie world.

During the interview, the topic of a Marvel/DC crossover arose when it was noted that James Gunn, former writer and director of the Guardians of the Galaxy Trilogy, is now leading DC Studios with the launch of the new DC Universe franchise. Given Gunn’s connections to both Marvel and DC, the possibility of a crossover seems more feasible than ever. While Feige did not confirm any ongoing plans for such an event, he left the door open for future possibilities.

“I think about it occasionally, like any fan would,” Feige said. “I don’t know when or how that would ever happen. But we’ve been talking too long for me to say ‘Never!’ We’ll never say never, but no, no plans. I’ve seen the paparazzi shots of the Superman set looking cool. So James [Gunn] is focusing on that, and we’re focusing on this [Deadpool & Wolverine].”

James Gunn has also been candid about his thoughts on an MCU/DCU crossover. Acknowledging that he’s considered it, Gunn revealed that there have been “very, very light and fun” discussions about the idea. “I’m certain that’s more likely now that I’m in charge [at DC],” Gunn said. “Who knows? That’s many years away, though. I think we have to establish what we’re doing [at DC] first. I would be lying to say that we haven’t discussed it. But all discussions have been very, very light and fun.”

When fans speculated that a Marvel/DC crossover might be imminent, Gunn clarified that it would take about a decade before any real collaboration could occur. “I think that it would look like something that would be happening in about ten years,” Gunn said with a laugh. “Not today, because we have a whole bunch of other DC movies we need to tell. But yeah, I think it could be cool.”

The DCU will kick off with the Creature Commandos animated series in December, followed by a Superman movie reboot slated for release on July 25, 2025. Meanwhile, Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters this week.
