Kim and Barry Plath Agree to Co-Parent Some of Their Children

For some Welcome to Plathville fans, the more pivotal divorce is that of Kim and Barry Plath rather than Ethan and Olivia Plath. With multiple kids they still need to co-parent and years of shared history, the split is arguably the more shocking of the two. What, then, are the custody details of Kim and Barry’s divorce?

Although most of their kids are now adults, Kim and Barry still have three younger daughters under 18 to raise—Amber, Cassia, and Mercy, aged 15, 13, and 11, respectively. With over 20 years together marked by highs and lows, transitioning to this new normal hasn’t been easy for either of them.

According to Kim on Welcome to Plathville, she and Barry devised their own custody arrangement while awaiting the finalization of their divorce. They alternate custody of their three youngest daughters weekly. Specifics about holidays or adjustments as the girls age remain unclear, but for now, this arrangement suits them.

Despite their split, Kim and Barry have strived to remain civil, particularly for their older children—Moriah, Micah, Lydia, and Ethan Plath. Each of these children has worked on their individual relationships with their parents.

On Welcome to Plathville, Kim describes her relationship with Barry post-separation as different but still somewhat awkward. Decades together means she knows him well, but a certain discomfort persists, which she believes will dissipate once the divorce is finalized.

In the meantime, their children—both younger and older—are keen on keeping the family bond intact. The trailer for Season 6 of Welcome to Plathville shows Moriah renting a vacation home for the entire family, including her parents.

This initiative isn’t about reconciling Kim and Barry but about maintaining familial peace. Kim is already seeing someone else, making a reconciliation unlikely. Nevertheless, the older Plath children endeavor to foster harmony within the family, even if it will never be the same as it once was.
