Kim Kardashian has always been candid about her struggles with psoriasis, a condition she has faced for years. Recently, she revealed that one of her sons also battles a skin condition, vitiligo, which causes loss of skin color in patches due to inactive pigment-producing cells, as explained by the Mayo Clinic.

Kim and her ex-husband Kanye West share two sons, Saint, eight, and Psalm, five, along with daughters North, 11, and Chicago, six. Although she did not disclose which of her sons has vitiligo, she emphasized that the condition is “under control.”

“It came from my mom, went to me … and I passed it on in a different form to my son, who has vitiligo very mildly,” she stated during a discussion on the She MD podcast about her journey with psoriasis.

Kim admitted her lack of knowledge about vitiligo when she initially learned of her son’s condition. “I didn’t know anything about it,” she confessed. “But having to learn about it, figuring out where it came from, and discovering that it’s hereditary has been enlightening.”

The Kardashians star also mentioned that her children experience mild eczema. Kim’s familiarity with skin conditions dates back to her diagnosis with psoriasis in 2011, a condition that creates itchy, scaly patches on various parts of the body, including the knees, elbows, and scalp.

In a poignant essay shared on her sister Kourtney Kardashian’s Poosh website in 2019, Kim revealed that her psoriasis receded during her pregnancies but returned vigorously afterward, even immobilizing her hands at one point.

“One night, I woke up to use the restroom and I physically couldn’t pick up my phone,” Kim recounted. “I woke up that morning and I still couldn’t pick up my phone. I was freaking out – I couldn’t even pick up a toothbrush, my hands hurt so badly.”

To manage her condition, Kim has dedicated herself to a healthier lifestyle. “I live a healthy life and try to eat as plant-based as possible and drink sea moss smoothies,” she explained.

She also emphasized the importance of self-care and stress management. “With all the stress in life, I try to make sure I take time for myself so that I am centered and keep my stress to a minimum,” she said.

Kim admitted that she still feels insecure about the visual effects of psoriasis. However, she believes in both embracing it and covering it up when necessary. “I am fine with showing it off and other times I don’t want it to be a distraction, so I cover it up with body makeup,” she shared.

“If you have psoriasis, you can’t let it ruin your life or get the best of you. You have to do what you can to make sure you are comfortable but not let it take over,” Kim advised.

In her pursuit of solutions, Kim has experimented with numerous remedies. “I’ll do anything,” she stated. “I’ve tried … special herbs, the holistic way, a celery juice diet for six weeks, every topical cream, every soap from natural to unnatural.”
