Kim Kardashian Shares Experience with Salmon Sperm Facial

Kim Kardashian appears to be adventurous when it comes to anti-aging treatments.

She once said she would "eat poop" if it meant looking younger. On the July 11 episode of The Kardashians, Kardashian revealed to her mom, Kris Jenner, while shooting promos for the Hulu show, that she tried another surprising anti-aging treatment.

"I got a salmon sperm facial with salmon sperm injected into my face," Kardashian, 43, casually shared.

While Kardashian didn’t provide details on whether she felt the salmon sperm facial had any benefits, another celebrity who recently tried the trend did: Jennifer Aniston.

In the WSJ. Magazine Fall Women’s Fashion issue of August 2023, Aniston disclosed that her aesthetician recommended salmon sperm facials. "First of all, I said, ‘Are you serious? How do you get salmon’s sperm?’" she told the magazine, adding that she was doubtful it actually did anything for her skin.

Though a salmon sperm facial might sound unusual, it’s not a completely new trend. "Salmon [semen] has been shown to improve skin hydration, plumpness, texture, and wrinkles. The effects on the skin are thought to be due to high DNA levels. DNA is composed of amino acids, which have long been used in skin care for their hydrating and cell-renewing benefits," explained Joshua Zeichner, MD, a New York City-based dermatologist, after Aniston’s beauty routine made headlines.

Kardashian’s approach of getting the sperm injected was spot-on, as that is the most effective method to achieve results. Typically, these facials are done through microneedling treatments, allowing the sperm (often in serum form) to deeply penetrate the skin.

However, it’s important to note that there is still limited research on the use of salmon sperm in skincare. Therefore, it’s advisable to consult your dermatologist or aesthetician extensively before trying it for yourself.
