Kimberlin Brown Reflects on Sheila Carter’s Villainy on ‘B&B’ and ‘Y&R’

Woman’s World has featured many soap opera troublemakers, but no one compares to Kimberlin Brown as Sheila Carter Sharpe. She’s been a notorious villain on both The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless for 34 years.

With Sheila’s current storyline featuring her at a crossroads between redemption and possible relapse on The Bold and the Beautiful, Brown discusses the complexities of her character and her relationship with Deacon Sharpe, played by Sean Kanan.

Sheila Carter made her debut in daytime drama in 1990 and has caused turmoil on both The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful ever since.

“I’m so lucky,” says Kimberlin Brown about her crossover role. “I get to interact with actors from both shows at CBS Television City. It’s always enjoyable to see colleagues from The Young and the Restless while working on The Bold and the Beautiful.”

Brad Bell, executive producer and head writer for The Bold and the Beautiful, highlights the balance required in soap storytelling. After a serious storyline about Eric Forrester’s illness, the show pivoted to Sheila’s dramatic antics.

“I view the show like a viewer,” Bell explains. “You sense when it’s too serious or too wild. It’s about finding that perfect mix of humor, drama, and adventure, much like cooking where you adjust ingredients for the right flavor.”

Sheila, as one of daytime television’s most iconic villains, has a dedicated fan base that loves to see her return. However, modern social media can sometimes bring hostile feedback.

“I let it roll off my back,” says Brown. “Negativity takes more energy than being kind. Some people use social media to vent when they’re having a bad day. I’m not one to engage with that negativity.”

Currently, Sheila is attempting to redeem herself on The Bold and the Beautiful and seeks acceptance for her new life with Deacon, her son Finn, and her grandchildren.

“I think a tiger can be tamed,” Brown cautiously notes. “But also, a tiger never changes its stripes. It’s important to be careful with Sheila because of her nature.”

Despite Sheila’s tumultuous history, Brown believes her character truly loves Deacon. “Deacon acts as the voice of reason for Sheila. He’s the angel on her shoulder,” she says.

Deacon, known for his own troubled past, brings an unusual dynamic to his relationship with Sheila. “Their relationship is fascinating,” Brown shares. “They accept each other’s pasts and don’t judge. It’s an unconventional yet genuine bond.”

Fans remain curious about Sheila’s future. Will Deacon be pulled back into a life of trouble, or will he help Sheila on her path to redemption?
