Kirk Franklin Discusses Son Kerrion’s Bisexuality and Viral Confrontation Video

Kirk Franklin has been a respected figure in the world of gospel music for many years. However, his image took a hit in recent years following the release of footage showing him cursing out his son, Kerrion. Now, the 54-year-old artist is opening up about that incident and discussing the current state of their relationship, especially after Kerrion came out as bisexual.

The “Looking For You” singer joined Cam Newton on Funky Friday last week and was candid about the difficult experience. “I was very ashamed of myself for the lack of control,” he confessed. “No matter what the conversation was, that I felt was a disrespectful conversation, because I’m the father I have the responsibility. And because I know my son, I have the responsibility to take in totality the environment that I was in and I didn’t do a good job.”

Franklin acknowledged that the manner in which he spoke to Kerrion “wasn’t the best,” and that mending their relationship has been challenging. “There have been good days, there have been bad days still,” he noted. “I am praying that my son will feel and see the support that is there for him to become his best, and the discipline and the work that takes. I know that it can be overwhelming for him, but I hope that he will see through it that he’s worth it. He’s worth it to himself to do the hard work with what God has, in his sovereignty, placed in your lap as a 36-year-old Black man.”

Cam Newton and Kirk Franklin shared a moment of connection as they discussed the challenges their children face, particularly the pressure to mirror their fathers. This connection allowed Newton to broach the subject of Kerrion’s bisexuality.

“I’ve had conversations with Kerrion since he was a little boy,” Franklin revealed. “I know my son. And my conversations with him have always been a consistent one. I love you and my love for you is not based on who you love. I love you. And that is my answer. That’s my answer as a Christian father who believes in the text. I love you and my love for you does not waver based on who you love.”

Kerrion came out in 2022 during an episode of Bad Boys Club. During a discussion about his relationship status and sexual preference, Kerrion revealed that he is polyamorous and identifies as bisexual. This came as a shock, especially given the previous year’s footage of Franklin threatening him. Many expected Franklin’s Christian beliefs to lead to rejection, but his recent conversation with Newton painted a different picture.
