Knocked Out Three Times

Halle Berry believes in full physical commitment to her roles. The actress revealed that she has broken at least 10 bones due to her action movie roles and has been “knocked out” three times.

“Arm broken, broke ribs twice — two ribs one time, three ribs another — broke tailbone, broke two toes, and [my middle] finger,” Berry said during a Netflix interview with her The Union co-star, Mark Wahlberg.

In total, this amounts to 10 broken bones. The Monsters Ball star added that she has also been “knocked out three times.”

Wahlberg’s inventory of injuries, while less severe, was still notable: “Torn meniscus, separated shoulder, ego bruised quite a few times,” the actor joked.

During the interview, Berry also discussed her experience playing a free diver in 2012’s Dark Tide.

“I had to hold my breath for almost two and a half minutes,” she said. “That felt like eternity.”

She also recalled her time playing Storm in X-Men. Berry mentioned spending long periods tied to a wire in the air. “Storm was always in the sky,” she explained. “It felt like the guy had gone to lunch, that’s how long I was up there.”

The Union stars Berry as Roxanne, a secret agent who recruits her high school sweetheart, Mike (Wahlberg), to join her in a high-stakes intelligence mission. The film is set for release on Netflix on August 16.
