Lady Deadpool Concept Art Shows Blake Lively’s Marvel Hero Redesign

Like many of his collaborators, costume illustrator Jonay Bacallado has been eagerly sharing his work for the film *Deadpool & Wolverine* on social media. Recently, he revealed concept art for Lady Deadpool, a character variant portrayed by Blake Lively, who is Ryan Reynolds’ real-life wife.

In the initial design, Lady Deadpool had a stereotypical 1990s comic book look, featuring straps, seams, pouches, and intricate details. However, the final version seen on screen was simplified. The character was given a cleaner outline, which provided a striking visual when she appears through a cloud of smoke leading a group of Deadpools.

You can view the images below, as shared on Bacallado’s Instagram account. He also posted a comparison shot of the original and final designs.

“Here’s the final costume concept for Lady Deadpool that I created for costume designer Mayes Rubeo in *Deadpool & Wolverine*,” Bacallado wrote. “Designing Deadpool variants was an exciting opportunity for us as fans and artists. It was a chance to be creative and have fun. One of my favorites that made it into the film is Lady Deadpool. We aimed to honor the comic book representations but also applied realism by scrutinizing every element of the suit. Her proportions differ significantly from the male version, so we embraced her curves and sinuous design.”

He added about the final design, “I’m thrilled it turned out so beautifully, made even better by Blake Lively’s performance, who brought the character to life and gave us one of the movie’s most iconic scenes.”

Marvel Studios’ *Deadpool & Wolverine* sees Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, altering the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside Wolverine, portrayed by Hugh Jackman. The film also features Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox and Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova. Returning cast members from the previous Deadpool films include Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapičić as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Rob Delaney as Peter, and Lewis Tan as Shatterstar. Aaron Stanford reprises his role as Pyro from the X-Men film series, and Jennifer Garner is rumored to return as Elektra Natchios.

Producers for the film include Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds, Shawn Levy, and Lauren Shuler Donner, with Louis D’Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey, and Simon Kinberg serving as executive producers. *Deadpool & Wolverine* was written by Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells, and Shawn Levy. It was released exclusively in theaters on July 26th.
