Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars Drop ‘Die with a Smile’ Single and Video

After days of anticipation, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ rumored collaboration has finally arrived.

On Friday, Aug. 16, the global pop stars released a brand-new duet titled “Die with a Smile” along with a vintage-themed music video. The video features Mars singing and playing guitar, with the camera later revealing Lady Gaga sitting at a piano with a cigarette in her mouth. Both artists are dressed in matching denim and red outfits, delivering flawless harmonies together. The intimate setting is enhanced with occasional flashing lights, and Gaga eventually gets up from the piano to dance.

Gaga, 38, and Mars, 38, confirmed their collaboration on social media just hours before its release, sharing the single’s cover artwork that shows them in matching red and blue rodeo outfits.

“WHILE YOU WAIT TILL LG7…’DIE WITH A SMILE’ a duet with @brunomars ❤️‍🔥,” the “Bad Romance” singer captioned an Instagram post on Thursday, referring to her forthcoming seventh studio album.

The duo dropped hints about their song earlier in the week. On Tuesday, Gaga shared a teaser clip on X (formerly Twitter) of her playing a slow piano medley while wearing a shirt with Mars’ face on it. Mars added to the speculation by quoting Gaga’s post with the wide-eyes emoji.

The next day, the “Uptown Funk” hitmaker returned the favor by posting a photo of himself pointing to a skull-head graphic tee with Gaga’s name on it.

“Die with a Smile” is the first song Mars and Gaga have recorded together, although they previously shared the stage at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Paris in 2016, where they performed a medley of their songs live alongside The Weeknd. This new single marks the first new release from both artists in some time.

Mars hasn’t released a solo album since 2016’s 24K Magic. He did, however, team up with Anderson .Paak in 2021 to form the Grammy-winning group Silk Sonic, releasing their album An Evening with Silk Sonic.

Gaga similarly hasn’t released a solo album since 2020’s Chromatica, which led to her 2022 tour and resulted in a documentary earlier this year. She also collaborated with the late Tony Bennett on their 2021 jazz album, Love for Sale. Tony Bennett passed away in July 2023.

However, her solo music drought might soon end as the “Poker Face” singer has been teasing LG7 for weeks. In mid-July, she posted photos on Instagram showing her in front of a studio microphone, captioned, “Just me in the studio—happy as ever making music 🖤🕶️💋🎶.”

“Feel so grateful, heart is peaceful. It’s like meditation,” she added. “I can’t wait for you to hear what I’m working on.”

According to Billboard, the 13-time Grammy winner surprised fans in Paris with snippets of new songs from her upcoming album following her performance at the 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony on July 26.

“I’m so deeply touched by my French fans this week outside the hotel. I’m gonna come out and say goodbye tonight with a few seconds of #LG7,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories before stepping outside to play the new music.

Last month, a source told PEOPLE that Gaga has “never been happier” about the music she’s currently working on, adding, “She’s feeling the most creative she’s ever been.”
