Laila Unveils ‘Not My Problem’ Video and Announces Debut Album ‘Gap Year!’

Laila!, the talented viral sensation from Brooklyn and the daughter of Yasiin Bey, has just released the official video for her single “Not My Problem.” This comes hot on the heels of the Cash Cobain posse cut remix that features 14 rappers. Additionally, Laila! has announced the release date of her debut album, Gap Year!, which will be available on Sept. 6.

Directed by Otmara Marrero, the video portrays Laila! and her friends catching her boyfriend in the act of cheating. In disbelief, Laila! returns home and notices an infomercial for the “Not My Problem Hotline” while lying down. The ensuing mix of call center vibes, Hilary Banks’ power suits, and ’90s late-night cable commercials creates an entertaining visual experience. The song itself features an infectious chorus that has been stuck in listeners’ heads. Laila! not only writes, sings, and raps, but also produces all her music, expressing a desire to make beats for some of her favorite artists in the future.

Laila! has already had a remarkably busy year. Her song “Like That!” went viral on TikTok and reached No. 3 on the Billboard TikTok Top 50, where it remained for eight weeks. “Not My Problem” also performed well, peaking at No. 16 on that chart and making its way to the Hot R&B Songs chart, where it reached No. 25.

The Brooklyn singer released a four-song EP titled In Ctrl! back in February. With her growing popularity, it’s safe to say that Laila! is someone to watch closely as her career continues to rise.
