Lainey Wilson Shines with Country Flair at NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert

Lainey Wilson is enjoying a significant career moment. Some might even describe it as a whirlwind, especially fitting since she released an album titled Whirlwind just last week. At 32, Wilson has experienced a meteoric rise in the music industry after years of hard work, and there seems to be no limit to her potential.

Part of achieving success in the music world includes being invited to NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series. While it may seem a bit gimmicky to some, performing at Tiny Desk is considered an honor by many artists and bands. Industry heavyweights like Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, and Post Malone have all played intimate sets at the Tiny Desk venue. Lainey Wilson recently had her turn, and she expressed her gratitude for the opportunity:

“This is a big deal for me and my band. We’ve been wanting to play this for so long. We are at Tiny Desk, which is kind of blowing my mind right now. This has just been a bucket list thing for us.”

During her performance, Wilson primarily showcased tracks from her Whirlwind album, starting with songs like “Hang Tight Honey,” “4x4xU,” and “Ring Finger.” For her final number, she chose the hit country song of 2023 from Bell Bottom Country, “Heart Like A Truck.”

Between songs, Wilson spoke about her career and the timing of the concert, which aligned perfectly with her recent successes:

“We have a lot to celebrate right now, like this record ‘Whirlwind.’ We decided to name the record ‘Whirlwind’ because, well… that’s what my life has been since we put out my last record, ‘Bell Bottom Country.’ Just trying to keep one foot on the ground. I feel like my life has changed, but I feel like I haven’t. And I think that has a lot to do with how close I keep my people. I gotta make sure I feel like Lainey the sister, the friend, the dog mama, the girlfriend – so I can be the best version that I possibly can be (as) the artist.”

Well said, Lainey. Throughout her Tiny Desk performance, it was evident that appearing on NPR’s series was incredibly meaningful to her. She delivered her signature upbeat personality and powerful vocals in every moment.
