Lana Condor’s Emotional Tribute to Her Late Mother, Days After Her Passing

Lana Condor’s mother has died.

The To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before actress, 27, shared the heartbreaking news that her mother, Mary Condor, passed away “a few days” ago. She conveyed this in a heartfelt Instagram post on Sunday, July 28.

Lana accompanied her post with a throwback photo of her mother holding her hand. The tender image shows a young Lana and her mom both donning elegant white dresses. Alongside the photo, Lana penned an emotional letter addressed to “my beautiful beautiful mama.”

“I’m laying here thinking about everything I want to say to you, how to put into words the sheer devastation of losing you and how it has carved me out and left me lost,” began the Moonshot actress. She admitted to feeling as though her mother had just gone to the store or is about to call her right back.

“I keep thinking that I still have you here. I want, I need you to know that every good thing I am, is because of you,” Lana expressed.

She spoke about the myriad of lessons her mother taught her. These included lessons on how to love others without hate, to trust her gut instincts, and to approach the world with empathy.

Lana described how her mother exemplified “unconditional love” and “compassion,” always encouraging her to prioritize these values.

She also touched on how Mary showed her the importance of finding humor in life, acknowledging that laughter makes survival easier and is a brave choice.

“You infused our world with so much joy and warmth and color that I fear the sunrises will always now feel somewhat muted because you aren’t here to watch them with me, like we always loved to do,” Lana continued. “It’s only been a few days since I lost you, but I miss you like you’ve been gone for way longer and also like you just left.”

Lana expressed her hopes that her mother is now “running in the wind” and finding answers to all of her life’s questions.

“I miss you with my whole soul,” the actress wrote, continuing that she had often told her mom she loved her “more than you could possibly ever know.”

Lana finished her emotional letter by saying, “I hope now, wherever you are, that you know.”

“You found me first, and I pray with everything that I am, that you’ll find me again,” she concluded.

Mary and Lana’s father, Bob, adopted Lana and her brother Arthur from a Vietnamese orphanage when Lana was just four months old.

In a 2021 interview, Lana reflected on a 2019 trip to Vietnam with Michelle Obama, her brother, and her parents. They visited the orphanage where she and her brother first met their parents.

“We retraced our steps, my parents’ steps to finding us. We went back to the orphanage and we met the manager of the orphanage,” she recalled.

“We saw every part of our past life. And if it wasn’t for To All the Boys, I don’t think Mrs. Obama would have asked me [on the trip],” Lana added.
