Fans of the iconic fitness guru Richard Simmons were in for a poignant moment as the social media team for Simmons released a post he had prepared for July 14, just a day after he passed away at 76.

The message on his X account @theweightsaint read, “Richard worked very hard on his posts for you. He had many ideas and would work ahead… going back to each one making changes until he had it just like he wanted before posting.”

The team continued, “As you know, on the weekends, he would just share a photo with a caption. He always chose his photos and wrote his captions for the upcoming weekend by Friday. So we have the post Richard planned to share with you last Sunday. We thought you’d want to see it.”

The post, which was meant for July 14, 2024, concluded with a heartfelt message from Simmons: “Let me fly you to the moon so we can gaze among the stars. Love, Richard.”

Accompanying the message was an image of a serene and smiling Simmons dressed in a NASA spacesuit. The post was intended to coincide with the 55th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

Simmons’ final farewell took place in Los Angeles, where he was laid to rest following a private funeral held on Friday. His brother, Lenny Simmons, confirmed the news to People magazine, stating, “Our beloved Dicky was laid to rest this morning surrounded by only family and closest friends. We pray for your continued love and support during this very difficult time.”

TMZ also reported that Simmons was buried at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park and Mortuary.

Richard Simmons was found dead at his home on July 13, just a day after celebrating his 76th birthday. The Los Angeles Police Department is continuing their investigation.

The LAPD confirmed the news to People magazine and assured there was “no foul play” involved.

The cause of death has been deferred pending additional testing by the Medical Examiner’s Office, a process that People magazine notes could take up to three months.

According to law enforcement sources cited by TMZ, Simmons sustained a fall on the evening of July 12. Despite his housekeeper’s suggestion to see a doctor, Simmons chose not to go that day because it was his birthday. The housekeeper found him unresponsive the following morning.
