Latto Denies Rap Beef with Ice Spice, Says It “Wouldn’t Make Sense”

Latto is renowned for her fiery command in the rap game, coining the phrase “get in the booth, b***h,” but when it comes to a tangible rap beef with Ice Spice, she seems skeptical, questioning whether Ice Spice would even be interested.

Both artists have traded subtle disses, igniting curiosity among fans about the possibility of a confrontation at the BET Awards. During the event, Latto and Ice Spice performed tracks with veiled references to each other. Latto’s upcoming album, Sugar Honey Iced Tea, appears to be a blend of homage to her southern heritage and a direct challenge to Ice Spice’s critiques in “Think U The S**t (Fart).”

In an interview, Latto dismissed the idea of a rap feud with Ice Spice, questioning the logic behind such a rivalry. She expressed her admiration for intense lyrical exchanges reminiscent of Kendrick Lamar versus Drake but dismissed Ice Spice as a contender. This sentiment lingered despite her insistence that there was no shade intended, leaving fans to speculate about a potential underlying rivalry. It’s notable that Latto filmed her “Sunday Service” music video in Ice Spice’s hometown, which some interpret as a subtle provocation.

Latto is willing to engage in lyrical sparring but doesn’t view Ice Spice as a suitable adversary. She reasons that they operate in different lanes, with some interpreting this as a comment on their respective levels in the industry. Whether there’s any merit to this or if it’s merely fan-fueled drama is unclear.

“If I was to do [a battle], it would have to be with somebody I feel like I’mma go tit-for-tat with. I really don’t mean it as shade. Would she even want to do that? I feel like she’s doing her in her lane. It’s two different types of vibes. I don’t even think she gives me like, ‘Oh, she wants to engage in an actual rap beef,’” Latto clarified.

This indicates that their tension may stem more from competitive success than personal animosity. Latto acknowledges that minor jabs in music are customary and are not grave matters for her. She emphasized that while casual digs are expected and even encouraged, dedicated diss records might be a stretch.

“Everybody gon’ take their lil jabs in the music, and it’s not even that serious to me; I feel like you should do that. Continue to! But as far as actual whole diss records to each other, I don’t think she would even want to do that. I feel like… would it even make sense? It wouldn’t,” she concluded.

Latto’s perspective seems to downplay any serious rivalry with Ice Spice, suggesting that their differences in style and scope make a direct confrontation unlikely.
