Latto Names Lil Kim As Her GOAT Female Rapper

Latto has named Lil Kim as one of the greatest female rappers in history during a conversation with her sister, Brooklyn Nikole. The two siblings appeared on Complex’s GOAT Talk digital series, where they were asked to identify their GOAT (Greatest of All Time) female rapper.

Brooklyn Nikole kicked off the discussion by naming her sister, Latto, as her favorite. “I’m not even gon’ lie, I have to say you. Not even being biased. I listen to you the most. You be on my top,” she said.

Latto laughed in response, embracing the compliment from her sister. “I am the GOAT tho,” she replied. “I’m my GOAT, and that’s all that matters. But like, the GOAT is Lil Kim, for sure. [A] fashion icon, [with] timeless music, timeless looks, gon’ forever be a staple, in not only rap, but female rap.”

Latto continued to praise Lil Kim, stating, “And she the GOAT because she is a queen for real, like off camera, she a queen… I love her, and she ‘Big Mama,’ too. It’s just a ‘Big Momma’ thing,” she said, referencing the rap veteran’s 1996 track featuring JAY-Z and her own newly-cemented nickname.

The 25-year-old rapper, also known as the “Georgia Peach,” previously explained how Lil Kim was not the direct influence for her adopting the term “Big Mama.”

“I swear to God, no!” she laughed when discussing it with Billboard. “[My producers] reminded me of that and I was like, ‘Oh, sh*t. I hope [she] don’t take that as offensive, like I’m tryna run off with her swag.’ But I spell mine different. And Kim love me down. Me and Kim like this. ( Crosses fingers.) That’s my bi**h. I don’t even think it’s like a Kim or Latto thing. It’s just a female’s bossed-up version of herself.”

Latto named Lil Kim, as well as Mariah Carey and Beyoncé, as aesthetic inspirations for her latest album Sugar Honey Iced Tea. Released earlier this month, the 17-track project features contributions from Ciara, Mariah The Scientist, Megan Thee Stallion, Teezo Touchdown, Hunxho, and Young Nudy.

An extended version of SH*T includes five additional songs, among them the viral “Chicken Grease,” which samples T.I.’s “24’s,” and the previously released “Put It On Da Floor.” The remix “Put It On Da Floor Again” featuring Cardi B, along with “Sunday Service” and its remix featuring Megan Thee Stallion and Flo Milli, are also part of the extended album.
