Lauryn Hill and the Fugees Cancel Their 2024 Tour

Lauryn Hill and the Fugees have announced the cancellation of their U.S. tour, scheduled to commence on Friday.

Concert dates listed on Ticketmaster were updated earlier this week to indicate the cancellations. Simultaneously, show listings on promoter Live Nation’s website informed ticket holders about forthcoming refunds. So far, representatives for Hill and Live Nation have not immediately provided any comments regarding the situation.

Previously promoted as the “Miseducation” anniversary tour, the planned series of concerts were set to feature Hill alongside her Fugees bandmates, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel. The group was to perform music from both the critically acclaimed 1996 album “The Source” and Hill’s Grammy-winning solo debut from 1998, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.” The tour was supposed to start this Friday in Tampa, Florida, and continue through mid-September with a final stop scheduled for September 17 at the Hollywood Bowl. Notably, in 2018, Hill had already celebrated the 20th anniversary of “Miseducation” with a tour stop at the Hollywood Bowl. Variety was the first to report on this recent cancellation.

The Fugees burst onto the scene with a distinctive fusion of melody and live instrumentation in hip-hop, yielding iconic hits like “Ready or Not” and their famous cover of Roberta Flack’s “Killing Me Softly With His Song.” They initially announced a reunion tour in 2021 after a 15-year hiatus but ended up playing only a single date before scrapping the tour due to what they described as pandemic-related challenges. The group attempted another comeback tour in late 2023 but again had to cancel, this time due to Hill experiencing “serious vocal strain.”

Hill recently made waves with a performance at L.A.’s Crypto.com Arena, where she delivered a six-minute speech that went viral. Addressing her well-known tendency to start her shows late, she quipped to the audience, “Y’all lucky I make it on this … stage every night.” She also spoke out about her perceived mistreatment by the record industry, highlighting some of the challenges she has faced in her career.
