LeBron, Tatum, & Butler Star in Obama-Produced NBA Sports Series

Netflix has unveiled a new, engaging 10-part sports series titled “Starting 5,” which highlights the lives and careers of several prominent NBA players, including LeBron James, Jayson Tatum, Jimmy Butler, Anthony Edwards, and Domantas Sabonis.

“Starting 5” offers an intimate, behind-the-scenes glimpse into the 2023-24 NBA season. It follows LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics, Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat, Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Domantas Sabonis of the Sacramento Kings. According to the official synopsis, the series showcases their on-court battles and off-court struggles as they chase greatness, endure injuries, manage family responsibilities, and build legacies. James aims to maintain his health and dominance in his 21st season, while Edwards shines with his rapid rise. Butler’s relentless drive fuels the Heat, Sabonis strengthens the Kings with his versatile play, and Tatum leads the Celtics in their pursuit of a historic 18th championship. “Starting 5” promises an unfiltered view of life at the top tier of professional basketball.

This series is produced by LeBron James’ production company Uninterrupted, in collaboration with Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions and Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions. It marks Higher Ground’s second sports series for Netflix, following the announcement of an upcoming Olympic men’s basketball series set to premiere in 2025.

“Starting 5” is directed by Susan Ansman, Trishtan Williams, and showrunner Peter J. Scalettar. The executive producers for the series include Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson, Philip Byron, and Randy Mims from Uninterrupted, the Obamas, Vinnie Malhotra, and Ethan Lewis from Higher Ground, and Peyton Manning, Jamie Horowitz, and Sam Pepper from Omaha Productions. Additionally, Sami Khan, Matt Rissmiller, and Camara Rose serve as co-executive producers.
