Legacy of Monsters Moves Season 2 Filming Location

The kaiju are not only set to return to the big screen with the highly anticipated third installment of the Godzilla Vs. Kong series, but also on AppleTV+ with the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. In the well-received first season, viewers saw fan-favorites like Godzilla, Kong, and other kaiju as characters from different eras came together to build the organization known as Monarch. Production for the second season kicked off earlier this year, and now, Monarch has shared an exciting update: the upcoming season will feature a new filming location.

In the climax of the first season, the characters made a quick escape from the Hollow Earth, using Godzilla to navigate their way back in the face of a menacing flying kaiju. However, they didn’t return to Earth unscathed. Lee Shaw, played by Kurt Russell, was left behind, and the rest of the team found themselves experiencing a significant time shift due to the differing temporal dynamics between Hollow Earth and the surface. The arrival of Kong at the end of the season marked a pivotal point, paving the way for the change in filming locations.

With the cast now on Skull Island, the show has officially announced that it will be moving its filming operations from British Columbia, Canada, to Queensland, Australia, for its second season. This shift seems entirely logical given the new narrative setting focusing more closely on Kong’s territory. While it’s not confirmed that the entire second season will take place on Skull Island, the relocation certainly aligns with the storyline’s direction.

For those who haven’t jumped into Monarch: Legacy of Monsters yet, Apple TV+ offers a captivating description: “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga – spanning three generations – reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.”
