Fans of the popular movie-reviews social network Letterboxd were left frustrated on Thursday due to an extended outage that rendered the service inaccessible.
Currently, the Letterboxd site displays the message, “We’re taking a short break between rounds. Letterboxd is down for scheduled maintenance. We’ll be back soon!” This message is accompanied by a photo still of Robert De Niro in Martin Scorsese’s “Raging Bull.”
Representatives for Letterboxd have not yet responded to requests for more information regarding the outage.
Letterboxd — which has garnered a celebrity following that includes Martin Scorsese, Margot Robbie, Olivia Rodrigo, Ava DuVernay, and Christopher McQuarrie — boasts over 10 million registered accounts. The company was founded in 2011 by New Zealand natives Matthew Buchanan and Karl von Randow. Last year, they sold a 60% controlling stake to Canadian investment firm Tiny, in a deal valuing the company at over $50 million.
Users flocked to social media to express their dismay over the Letterboxd outage, many of them using movie clips to convey their sentiments:
the fact that i’m watching a movie right now and can’t do a deep dive on the cast and crew’s filmographies because letterboxd is down
