Lily Collins on Discovering Her True Self in ‘Emily in Paris’ Character

Lily Collins is revealing how she identifies with her character in the upcoming season of the popular show “Emily in Paris.”

In an interview with InStyle, where she graces the Fall 2024 cover, Collins discussed how she “found more of myself in Emily this season.”

Collins shared how Emily’s rising confidence in her job and her willingness to take new risks, particularly in fashion, mirrored her own life. She noted that while some might not see Emily’s new ventures as risky as her initial ones, they feel more daring to Emily. This pared-down, minimalistic style risks feel closer to home for Collins.

When Collins first started portraying Emily, she struggled with making the character unique and dealing with Emily’s perfectionist streaks.

Collins explained, “This idea of perfection, needing to just always feel ready to go, always feeling like your perfect self — that’s not how I want to live my life, especially at 35.”

Initially, Collins found Emily’s tendency to “take up so much space” with her mix of patterns, prints, textures, and styles to be a bit foreign. However, this role helped Collins embrace more vibrant and bold colors in her own life.

Describing the new season as “the season of vulnerability,” Collins expressed her excitement for audiences to see Emily’s transition. “I’m excited for people to see the transition this season. I’m proud of it,” she stated.

Part one of “Emily in Paris” season four will be available on Netflix on Aug. 15, followed by part two on Sept. 12.
