Lioness Season 2 Welcomes Genesis Rodriguez from The Umbrella Academy

The Paramount+ military drama formerly known as Special Ops: Lioness has recruited The Umbrella Academy graduate Genesis Rodriguez to its ranks.

Hailing from the prolific Taylor Sheridan and inspired by an actual U.S. Military program, Lioness (as the series was retitled for Season 2) follows CIA station chief Joe McNamara, played by Zoe Saldaña, as she attempts to balance her personal and professional life as the tip of the CIA’s spear in the war on terror.

The series also stars Laysla De Oliveira, who played Season 1’s titular operative Marine Raider Cruz Mañuelos. The star-studded cast includes executive producer Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, Michael Kelly, Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Jennifer Ehle, Bruce McGill, Thad Luckinbill, and Hannah Love Lanier.

Rodriguez, as reported by People.com, will fill the Season 2 role of Captain Josephina “Josie” Carillo, a fierce and dedicated helicopter pilot.

“It’s a strange relationship” that Joe and Josie share, says series lead Saldaña. “There’s a lot of mistrust from the beginning.”

Besides her Season 3 stint on The Umbrella Academy as Sloane Hargreeves, Rodriguez’s previous TV credits include Quibi’s The Fugitive, ABC’s Time After Time, and episodes of SVU and Entourage.

At the time of its July 2023 debut, Lioness, according to Paramount+, set a new record as the streamer’s most-watched worldwide series premiere, with nearly six million total viewers in its first week across Paramount+ globally and a linear preview on the Paramount Network.

Lioness Season 2 is expected to premiere this fall, with the exact date to be announced.
