Live-Action Series of My Dress-Up Darling Announced

My Dress-Up Darling is transitioning to live-action as a new drama series has been confirmed. Shinichi Fukuda’s My Dress-Up Darling initially became a hit in Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine since its debut in 2018, but its popularity notably skyrocketed with the release of its anime adaptation in 2022. The anime’s first season propelled the franchise to new heights in manga sales and overall recognition, with notable developments in recent months.

The announcement of a live-action series for My Dress-Up Darling reveals that it will air on TV in Japan as part of the Dramaism block on the MBS network, starting October 8th. Directed by Koji Shintoku and written by Satoko Okazaki, the series will feature Riko Nagase and Kota Nomura in the lead roles of Marin Kitagawa and Wakana Gojo. Fans can get a first look at this anticipated live-action adaptation in the preview below.

The original anime ended its first season in 2022 and had since teased the continuation of the series, albeit without confirming whether it will return as an OVA, movie, or a new season. Although details on the new project and its release are still under wraps, there is ample time for new viewers to catch up with the anime’s first season, which is available for streaming on Crunchyroll.

The storyline of My Dress-Up Darling follows Wakana Gojo, a high school boy aspiring to become a kashirashi, a master craftsman of traditional Japanese Hina dolls. Despite his enthusiasm for the craft, Gojo struggles to keep up with contemporary trends and fits awkwardly with his classmates. In stark contrast, popular student Marin Kitagawa seems to belong to a completely different world altogether. Their seemingly disparate lives intersect dramatically when Kitagawa divulges a surprising secret, leading their paths to collide and merge.
